Among the news this morning is word that John Goodwin of New York, a veteran of the war, married Mrs. Margaret Murphy of Chicago here at Centre Square. Mister Goodwin and Mrs. Murphy (before she was Mrs. Murphy) were engaged 46 years ago but unexplained circumstances prevented their marriage and each subsequently married another.

Upon becoming widower and widow the two agreed to attempt to become married again – and this time to succeed at the attempt – and to do so during the 50th anniversary celebration here at Gettysburg.

Between June 29th and July 4th, 2013 our posts will come to us courtesy of the “blogging time machine” we have secretly and mysteriously sent a century into the past to the site of the Great Reunion at Gettysburg.
